Atom, The Spark of the Future, OIC Conference, December 5, 2024, Samarkant, Uzbekistan
An International Conference “Atom, The Spark of the Future”, was held in the historic city, Samarkant, with the theme “The Perspective of the Use of Nuclear Energy for Peaceful Purposes in the Sustainable Development of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation: International and National Experience”.
The conference was an indication of the international importance and support given to Uzbekistan’s rapidly developing SMR program.
In his opening speech, UzAtom President Azim I. Akhmedkhad spoke about the promising aspects of the SMR program, stating that it would benefit not only Uzbekistan but also other Central Asian countries. B. Gül Göktepe participated as an invited speaker in the panel (*) “Environmental and Social Aspects of the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy in OIC Countries”. In her presentation; she spoke about the long-standing public awareness activities in Türkiye. She talked on some generic findings from her research on risk perception towards nuclear power plants, and risk communication efforts regarding the Akkuyu NPP. She emphasized the importance of cooperation with the sister country in the nuclear field.
